Pet Pampering

Pet pampering is big business in Britain. Huge numbers of the population believe in the maxim of nothing but the best for their cherished pets and to meet this demand the whole industry of pet pampering has grown and developed to cater for the most sophisticated accoutrements of modern living.

This can include anything from pet sitting, a trip to the pet spa to their own dog psychologists, who even prescribe a canine version of Prozac – when all this luxury becomes just too much to bear.

Pampered pets enjoy a lifestyle that is the envy of many humans; they wear the latest designer pet gear, including Burberry trench coats, sleep on Gucci beds and flaunt jewelled collars from Harrods.

In fact, right now, there are even companies developing clip-on mobile phones for pets so that their doting owners can chat to them!

It would seem that no pet need ever feel deprived or neglected; in the UK around four billion pounds are spent every year on cats alone. Some of these feline luxuries include beds, natural supplements, knitwear, gold collars, a visit to the beauty salon and, amazingly, a cat video player which comes complete with a scented remote control smelling of meat and fish.

British cats already have their own video which shows 45 minutes of psychedelic images of mice, goldfish and balloons – so there is no need for your moggy to take any exercise then!

Dogs too, don’t have to put up with a dog’s life as they can now thoroughly enjoy the comforts of individual grooming, full spa treatments – including special doggy bathrobes, nail trimming, adoring dog walkers, colour coded wardrobes, dog deckchairs, personalised bowls and dining tables, diamond encrusted collars and even their own swimming pools.

With the growing trend to travel in luxury with the family pets at our side, many forward thinking hotels now not only accept pets but offer pet welcoming hampers, pet beds, beach toys, pet bathrobes, pet-friendly menus as well as 24-hour pet concierge services; which can include pet walking, in-room grooming and even excursions for your pet to take in the local culture.

By far the largest growing pet care sector though, is the one that offers individual pet sitting services. These companies provide professional pet sitting in your own home whilst you are away or just out for the day. All pet sitting services should specialise entirely in the care of pets and only employ pet sitters who genuinely love animals.

Only ever use a recognised pet sitting company who will focus completely on the care and well-being of your beloved pet. Beware of the cowboys that are now springing up everywhere – they are simply in the business to line their own pockets. Take your time in choosing a pet sitter and do make sure that you meet them face-to-face before you even consider using their services.
