London over the centuries has always been a magnet for world traders and travellers alike. While London streets are not really paved with gold they are undoubtedly rich in history, from the time of the Romans to the Great Fire of London in 1666 or from the Great Exhibition in 1851 to the Blitz. You will fall across the legacy of London's past wherever you turn.
The actual City of London, also known as the Square Mile, is in fact a tiny area of about one square mile slap in the centre of Greater London, this was originally the full extent of London. Notable architectural elements in our capital city range from the austere Tower of London or elegant Georgian squares to remnants of Victorian wharves and the narrow streets of London's East End or the magnificent St. Paul’s Cathedral that has so far withstood the ravages of time and war.
London today is a mixture of pageantry and tradition, music and the arts, unparalleled West End theatres, fabulous shops and restaurants, lively bars and a plethora of night clubs. While its resident cosmopolitan population comprises a mixture of wealthy and discerning culture lovers living alongside the young and street-wise.
